4 Ways New Windows Can Create Better Insulation Against Heat And Energy Loss

Did you know that your windows are one of the most important parts of your home’s insulation system? They can account for up to 30% of your home’s energy loss, so it’s important to make sure they’re properly insulated. If you’re thinking about replacing your windows, here are a few things you should know about how new windows can create better insulation against heat and energy loss.

1. Increased Air Tightness

One of the most important ways that new windows can create better insulation is by increasing the air tightness around the window frame. Older windows often have gaps around the frame, which allow air to leak in and out. This can lead to significant heat loss, especially in the winter. Newer windows are typically sealed much more tightly than older windows, which helps to prevent air from leaking in and out.

2. Better Thermal Performance

The materials used in new windows are often better at insulating than the materials used in older windows. This is especially true of the glass, which can be made with special coatings that reflect heat back into the home. They can also have frames made from materials that are better at insulating, such as vinyl or fiberglass.

3. More Efficient Frames

The frames of new windows are often made with materials that are more efficient at insulating than the frames of older windows. This is especially true of vinyl frames, which are a good insulator and can also help to block out noise. New windows can also have frames that are designed to reduce air leakage, such as frames with a built-in weatherstripping system.
